The Thomas TOWELLS you refer to as being a son of Thomas and Sarah Ann was born 12 Apr 1862 (illigitimate) and was born to Sarah Ann before she married Thomas TOWELLS and he was Christened Thomas Richard.
Thomas Richard was the illigitimate son of Sarah Ann SMITH and Henry ALCOM. He was Christened a SMITH but after the marriage of his mother to Thomas TOWELLS his surname was accepted as TOWELLS and accordingly he was raised by Thomas and Sarah as their own.
