Shirley Harper mentioned a writing case which was handed down through her McBean family which had Alexander McBean's address: 16 Virginia Street, Aberdeen, North Britain.
Now, in the 1851 census, Alexander McBain was living with Kinnellar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland with his wife Rachel Hay and children Rachel and Alexander. Rachel is mentioned on the death record as his first wife. He is employed as a contractor. His birthplace is shown as "Inverness-shire-Dunlichtly" (or Dunlighty). In both 1861 and 1871, his birthplace is shown as "Invernessshire - Daviot". Based on census records, his birth year is between 1817 and 1820. According to his death record, his birth year would be 1818.

Alexander married Rachel Hay, daughter of William Hay and Rachel Rennie. (Rachel Hay was born circa 1820.)

Alexander next married Barbara Findlay. (Barbara Findlay was born circa 1820.)
