Noted events in her life were:

• source. Carol Duncan @ genes who writes:
Jane's age on son John's birth certificate says 'about 36'. She was probably only 26. 74 years at death on 26 May 1904. 3 Feb 2006: Spoke with Narelle Simons, another descendant of Jane and Thomas. Her information is that Jane arrived in Sydney 3 Feb 1850 aboard the ship Thomas Arbuthnot. Family legend has it that after Jane's parents died, an aunt of some means paid for her to go to college (Girton? Girtane?). After the Aunt died, she left Jane some money but the money was refused her by the rest of the family. Jane was then in a workhouse and sent to Australia. She apparently met Thomas Callaghan on the ship, he may have been a crewmember. He was apparently very kind to her, gave her extra food. They met up again in Sydney a couple of years later and got married. Narelle thinks Thomas may have already been married with another family. Jane was a nursing assistant to a Dr Pockley (sp?). Indeed a Jane Danford did arrive on the Thomas Arbuthnot, but I'm wondering if she was too young to be our Jane?

• Occupation. nurse

• Arrival: on the Thomas Arbuthnot, 17 Jan 1849, Sydney, NSW Australia. 511
