MACINNES - Clann Aonghais - are an ancient Celtic clan. Their earliest territory was in Morven where they are said to have formed, with the MacGillivrays, part of the Siol Gillebhride.
They remained in possession of Morven and, wen Coll Kitto besieged and burnt Kinlochaline Castle, a MacInnes was its leading defender. Finally driven out of Morven, some MacInnes joined the Campbells of Craignish; others ecame hereditary bowmen to the MacKinnons of Skye.
Owing to their later Campbell connections, most MacInneses fought for the Hanoverians but one family followed Stewart of Ardshiel. There is no recognised Chief of Clann Aonghais. Badge - Holly.
