  General Notes:

source: Keith Shrimpton where it is noted:
JOHN BOYTER AND ELIZABETH ANN VINCENT.

John Boyter arrived as a Bounty Immigrant on the "Augusta Jessie" on 11th October 1837.
He was a farm labourer, thirty-three years of age and was brought out by Mr. A… (Second part illegible) of Portland Head. His rate of wages were, twenty-five Pounds per annum and in addition his rations were to be supplied by his employer. He is noted as a married man with a wife and child, but apparently not accompanied by his family. No record has yet been found of the arrival of his wife Elizabeth Ann nee Vincent and his infant son George in the Colony, so it is likely that they arrived as steerage passengers on a later vessel, as the arrival of such passengers were frequently not recorded. Later records indicate that the Boyter's came from Wiltshire England.

A daughter Mary Ann was born to John Boyter a Labourer of Colo and Elizabeth his wife in 1838, and a second son William Henry was born in 1842, by which time John has apparently improved his lot in life, he appears in the Register as a Settler at Colo. Mary Ann Boyter married John

"The Pragmatic Pioneers""Page 51"
Pett in 1857 and her brother William Henry married Sarah Turnbull in 1864 and had a family of nine.

Elizabeth Ann apparently died prior to 1849, when a John Boyter, widower of Colo, married a widow, Mary Ann Buirt at Windsor, according to the rites of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Elizabeth Ann nee Vincent is possibly buried in an unmarked grave in the Upper Colo cemetery and Mary Buirt is probably the Mary Ann Boyter who died at Windsor at the age of ninety in 1872. John Boyter died at Upper Colo on 31stJuly 1883 at the age of seventy six years and was buried in the Upper Colo Cemetery, where his headstone can still be found.
