• source. Trevor Davidson @ genes & Bevan Bartlett who writes:
Hi. I have been researching my family tree and came across your website. In regards to Thomas Cock and his wife Eliza Smitheram. You have them listed as died at Wallaroo mines, this is not correct. The Thomas and Eliza from wallaroo were actually around the same age but eliza's last name was Riddle and they had 10 children.

Thomas Cock & Eliza Smitheram also had 10 children.

Elizabeth Ann Cock b 18 Sep 1855 Morphett Vale, South Australia, Australia
Mary Jane Cock b 11 Jul 1857 Morphett Vale, South Australia, Australia
Sibina Cock b 02 Jul 1859 Morphett Vale, South Australia, Australia
Margaret Smitham Cock b 16 Aug 1861 Morphett Vale, South Australia, Australia
William Cocks b 13 Aug 1863 Mclaren vale. South Australia. Australia
Eliza Cock b 23 Mar 1866 Mclaren vale. South Australia. Australia. d 26 Apr 1942 Laura, South Australia, Australia
Sarah Cock b 04 Jun 1868 Mclaren vale. South Australia. Australia
Emily Cock b 08 May 1871 Gawler, South Australia, Australia
Thomas Cock b 31 Jul 1873 Belalie, South Australia, Australia
Edward James Cock b 11 Nov 1875 Belalie, South Australia, Australia

All of the children were given the surname Cock, except for William who was registered as William Cocks, whith the "S" on the end of his name. Although they all went by the name Cocks later on.
William was my great grandfather. My mothers maiden name was Joyce Cocks.

I have had problems tracking down Tomas and Eliza's deaths, But I think I have traced Eliza to Jamestown S.A. Buried as Elizabeth Cocks in 1906. Note above the last 2 children born at Belalie which is Jamestown.
A little more research on my part should uncover the mystery.
