The information that we have suggests that Eliza Jane was the illegitimate daughter of Sarah Phillips, but that her marriage certificate gives her name as "Eliza O'Leary" - we had surmised that either (1) Eliza was married to a man named O'Leary prior to marrying Michael Fogarty (although we can't find any record of this marriage) or more likely (2) she knew her father's name and used it. Additionally, the only marriage we have found for Sarah Phillips was to Michael Shean (or Sheean) in 1863, 2 years after the birth of Eliza. We believe Michael Shean adopted Eliza, but I have not yet found documentary evidence of this.
