Henry Stewart Lord Darnley
Cause of his death was assassinated. Noted events in his life were: • fact. His marriage to Mary, Queen of Scots, was a disaster. Darnley was three years younger than Mary (their birthdays were only a day apart) and not particularly mature. He was unpopular with the other nobles and had a mean and violent streak, aggravated by a drinking problem. Within a short time, Mary became pregnant, but Darnley grew more and more demanding. His jealousy of Mary's private secretary, David Rizzio, culminated in the bloody murder of the latter by Darnley and a group of his supporters, in the presence of the queen herself at Holyrood Palace. Archibald Douglas subsequently secured pardons for all those involved. Henry married Mary I Queen of Scots, daughter of James V of Scotland and Mary of Guise, on 29 Jul 1565 in Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh Scotland. (Mary I Queen of Scots was born on 8 Dec 1542 in Linlithgow Palace, West Lothian, Scotland UK, died on 8 Feb 1587 in Fotheringhay Castle, Northamptonshire England and was buried in Peterborough Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Westminster, London, Middlesex England.) |
