John Morton
Noted events in his life were: • fact. John Morton emigrated to America in 1809, but returned to Scotland in 1812 to take over his family farm when his father died. He was guardian for some of the six Black children when their mother, who was his sister, and her husband both died just a few months apart. He kept a diary of events in America and Scotland which is very interesting in its descriptions. One account tells of a "very merry wedding of Scotchmen and Scotchmen's bairns and them that lay in Scotchmen's arms." He also details his wedding, birth of seven children, and the sad deaths of his wife of fifteen years and their three daughters between 1832 and 1835. John married Christain Wood on 24 Jan 1816 in Strathaven, near Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland UK.
