  General Notes:

Barrie Smith notes:
My mother Dora and father Charles Gomer migrated from the town of Port Talbot, South Wales ca 1927 or 1928 (on separate ships (Hobson Bay), father coming first). They brought my brothers Donald Morgan and Cyril Terence (known as Terry). Donald was killed in a bus accident in Arncliffe in 1935. I was born in Sydney July 11, 1936.

Separately, there were Brays already living in Coffs Harbour. My mother knew of them and made contact. We visited them regularly. I still keep in touch with Athol's daughter Kerry.
It was believed that these Brays had arrived in Australia via Melbourne and earlier via New Zealand in the 19th C.
Athol Bray told me once that he went to NZ and tried to make contact with them. Succeeded but they did not want to trace it any further.

An interesting fact:

In 1949 my mother and father sponsored her sisters Lily and Violet plus the former's husband Arthur Inch to Australia. Dissatisfied, after a year or so, they returned to Wales.
My only Bray first cousin in Wales that I can locate (Irene Cardy, née George) told me that they had returned to Wales via NZ; Violet found the Brays and picked up an inheritance!
A few years later again Lily contracted cancer; Arthur electrocuted her in the bath (!), was arraigned in court and freed!

Charles married Dora Bray, daughter of Robert Bray and Emma. (Dora Bray was born circa 1900.)
