• source. Kirrily Cant @ genes who writes:
Edward paid £20 for his own passage as per shipping record. 'Maitland' arrived Sydney NSW AUS, 5 November 1838 leaving from Gravesend ENG. Edward was a staunch Baptist and after his wife died Edward (then 50) decided to emigrate to Australia. On March 25, 1838, Robert (29 - Wife Mercy 26, Alfred 5, Robert 2 and George 1), Thomas (28 - Wife Hannah 23, Jane 6, Thomas 4, John 3, Caroline 1 and David who was born at sea), James (26 - Wife Mary 24, Mary Ann 3, Charlotte 1 and Harriet born at sea) and Isaac (24 - Wife Sarah 22, Jane 1, Robert and Thomas), all children of Edward Blanch, set sail on the 'Westminster' for Australia from Gravesend. George Blanch died at 11 months on June 24. The ship arrived in Australia on June 26. Edward Blanch left Gravesend on the 'Maitland' on June 24, 1838. Travelling with him were his youngest children Elizabeth (18), Philadelphia (16), Samuel (12), Mary (10) and Anne (8). The two young children took ill on the journey and were still when the Maitland arrived in Australia. Edward arrived in Australia at Port Jackson from England on November 5, 1838. However, the ship was quarantined at Manly on arrival after a suspected typhus outbreak on ship. By the end of December they were allowed to leave the ship. Edward was then followed by his other three sons, George, John & Stephen all arriving at Port Jackson from England on the 'Cornwall' 1 September 1839. It would seem that the family quickly settled in the Raymond Terrace area. Later on Edward Blanch worked for William Caswell on the 'Balickerra' property. In 1860, at about 74 years old, Edward died on this property.
