Sale marks end of an eraA LARGE crowd was on hand at the Garnock's 'South Bukalong' property for their 66th annual bull sale and final female sale on Friday. Along with regular clients, buyers from as far afield as South Gippsland were on hand as they attempted to take advantage of the last opportunity to secure much sought after "South Bukalong' genetics. The combination of a fittingly high standard yarding and strong demand meant that bidding was solid on most lots. The top-priced bull - SB Eden was purchased by John and Henry Bridgewater of Nimmitabel for $7500 as 35 Poll Hereford bulls averaged $4143, while Hereford bulls topped at $6000 and averaged $3288. Cows with calves at foot sold to $3000, with the Sellers family of Bendoc making a total of seven purchases. The sale marked the end of over 50 years of successful cattle breeding for the family, a tradition that began in the early 1950s, when John Garnock commenced breeding Herefords, before moving on to registered Herefords in 1957, and adding Poll Herefords three years later. Since this time over 2,500 'South Bukalong' bulls have serviced the industry including the likes of SB Wescott, which sold for a Sydney RAS record of $44,000. The Garnock family thanks those in the district who have supported them over the past half century and wish them well with their Herefords in the future.
