Medical Notes:
The Argus, Friday 13 March 1925, page 12 WOMAN DIES FROM POISON. Mothers Death Follows. With distressing suddenness the deaths occurred yesterday of a married woman and her mother at their home in Alfred square, Esplanade, St. Kilda. Shortly after 10 o'clock yesterday morning Dr Hubert Blauhaum, of Gray street, St. Kilda, received an urgent call to a house in Alfred square, St. Kilda, where Mr Ernest Bradshaw lived with his wife, Ninevah Ellen Jane Bradshaw, aged 39 years, and her mother, Mrs Maria Jane Brien, aged 70 years, and other relatives. When Dr. Blaubaum arrived he was told that Mrs Bradshaw, who had been in ill-health for some time, had been found in a room in the house in a state of collapse some minutes earlier, and apparently suffering great pain. Dr. Blauhaum found that the woman was suffering from the effects of poison. Later a bottle containing a poisonous liquid was found in the room. Mrs Bradshaw did not respond to the treatment of the doctor and she died shortly after his arrival. Her body was taken to the morgue. Six hours later Dr. Blauhaum was summoned to attend Mrs Brien, who on hearing the news of her daughter's death had collapsed. The doctor found that Mrs Brien was dead. The police were notified, and Mrs Brien's body was taken to the morgue. Constable Sloane, of st Kilda police station, is making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of both woman.
