Records show that Jane's husband was the eldest son of a well known French nobleman, believed to be related to the reigning family. His father had left France on account of the revolutionary troubles, took refuge in England, and joined the NSW Corps arriving in the colony in 1794. Records also show that Paul and Jane, together with Paul's brother Charles were among the pioneers of the Wodonga District, setting up the Wodonga run in 1836.
