General Notes:
Sam worked as a cabin boy on SS Bury, which traded between Grimsby and Hamburg. On 06-11 1914 they docked at Hamburg, just as Germany were taking all British civilians as POWs. They were taken to Ruhleben racecourse(10km west of Berlin) which was used as a POW camp.He remained here until the end of the war.
Sam worked for catering company until he opened his own cafe in 1939. He sold this in 1955 and worked for Norvic Shoes as Caretaker/Handyman until he retired.
