  General Notes:

Paul Shurte notes:
Mary Ann Dawson married Arthur J. Clarke but discovered after about 7 years she was having kidney trouble. This caused serious trouble as time went by and eventually the kidney trouble caused her death, on January 20, 1911, at Armidale. She did have children and they were left in the care of his mother in accordance with Mary's and her husband's wishes.
Arthur "Hardy" Clarke and Mary Ann (nee Dawson) Clarke, had four children, aged between one and eight years, when Mary Ann (nee Dawson) Clarke, died of kidney trouble, on January 20, 1911, at Armidale, New South Wales. Mary Ann (nee Dawson) Clarke was only 31 years old when she died and it was only one day after her tenth wedding anniversary, which she tried so hard to hold on to life so she could observe the celebration with her husband. A witness said Mary Ann (nee Dawson) Clarke motioned for her husband's hand it was near that anniversary's midnight, of their anniversary, and she was heard to say "finally I hold your hand my dear husbands - on this special day - It has been so short and yet so much love". She gave a smiled and she continued, "We made it my love - Happy anniversary! God take care of you!" Mary Ann passed away with these last solid words for her husband to hold onto. The witnesses on the death certificate are: J.E. Ferris and John Lockyer. Arthur's mother, Agnes Clarke, raised their four children with occasional help from the other Dawson families in the area. Agnes Clarke herself became a widow, her husband, William, died in 1888, at Narrabri New South Wales so she found looking after the children a new adventure and something to look forward too. It was a welcome diversion she would say.

Mary married Arthur John (Hardy) Clarke, son of William Clarke and Agnes Francis Jones, on 19 Jan 1901 in Trinity Hall, Glen Innes, NSW Australia. (Arthur John (Hardy) Clarke was born in 1872 in Narrabri, NSW Australia, died on 8 Nov 1948 in Narrabri, NSW Australia 515 and was buried in Narrabri, NSW Australia Methodist section.)
