MUSTERS: Land Grant 1: Samuel Sherlock was granted an allotment in Launceston, by Major Stewart, who was Commandant at the time, and by 1820 Samuel had fenced it and built on it. 1819 Muster for Cornwall, Tas. taken on 15/10/1819 Sherlock, Samuel, No. 152. free, living on stores. Sherlock, Sarah, No. 80. free, living off stores. (Free, means free to Van Diemans' Land as distinct from NSW). 25/10/1819 Samuel Sherlock received from His Majesty's Magazine at Port Dalrymple, 22 pounds of sugar and 2 gallons of rum in payment for labour performed for the government. And on the 9 May 1821, he was paid cartage of 25 shillings at Port Dalrymple, presumably by the government; and at this stage both he and Sarah were living off stores. Port Dalrymple Muster of 17/10/1821. Free men. No. 90. Samuel Sherlock, came free, off stores Free women. No. 35. Sarah King, arrived per "Speedy" (Quested, master of the vessel, arrived (Sydney) 15/4/1800. Tried at Guildford (Surrey), 7 years, off stores, married to Sherlock. 1822 Land and Stock survey. Tas. Samuel is shown with land of homed cattle he had 4 male and 7 female, no sheep, no swine. 3 in the household which was not victualled, one proprietor, one wife, and one crown servant. There were no children. But in 1823 John Henry Sherlock was born to Samuel and Sarah, Sarah by then would have been 43 by my thinking ?. ..............
