considers that this infomation on Nancy New is incorrect. He writes:
In view of your extensive list of ancestors it seems trivial to question one small piece of information but I would appreciate your comment as we do have a connection about which I can find little confirmation. My great, great, great, grandmother on my mother's side was Nancy New. Those persons who have included her in their family tree invariably give her as being born in Wombourne, England, in 1786 and her husband, Edward Baker, as being born in the same place in 1780. These dates and locations appear to have been derived from the dates of death of these individuals coupled with their stated ages at death as given in the parish records. However the parish records for Wombourne show no Nancy New being born to Daniel and Ann New at that time nor is there any record of Edward Baker being born in Wombourne at or near the date given. Daniel and Ann New did have a daughter, Hannah New, in 1779 and Hannah and Nancy are commonly interchanged. Unfortunately 1779 does not fit with her age at death although errors were common as most people did not read or write. Further, the Census of 1851, shortly before his death, gives Edward Baker's birthplace as West Bromwich \endash a relatively near but quite different location to Wombourne. We have a narrowboat named Nancy New and, being originally born in Wombourne, I have a strong interest in the history of my family born in that area.
