On September 8th 1852, Frederick and Ann together with their children, sailed from Plymouth for Australia aboard "Humboldt". The Humboldt arrived in Sydney on 19 December 1852 carrying board 214 adults, 70 children aged between 1 to 14 years, and 6 children aged under 1 year, of whom only 3 children (2 aged over 1 year) died during the passage.
