Vern's marriage to Dulcie failed as Dulcie started a relationship with the neighbour across the road whilst Vern was out clearing the hills at Rye Park. After enormous legal costs Vern failed to get a divorce but finally did when Dulcie got pregnant. (No reimbursement of costs though.)
Vern and his second wife, Gladys were still alive and well in 2004 living in a nursing home at Springwood NSW.
