The 1881 British census records Obadiah as a 71 y.o. hoop shaver living at Yew Tree Cottage West Hoathly with his wife, Sarah and unmarried lodger, Sarah's brother Isaac Goaucher (sic), a 75 y.o. labourer.

Obadiah married Sarah Goucher, daughter of John Goucher and Esther, on 15 Apr 1828 in Slaugham, Sussex England. (Sarah Goucher was born in 1807 in Cuckfield, West Sussex England and died on 17 May 1884 in West Hoathly, near East Grinstead, Sussex England.)
